The International Renewable Energy Agency says that if the renewable energy sources are doubled and forced to give greater energy efficiency, the reducing of global emissions of carbon will be reachable. This new roadmap developed by IRENA shows that renewable energy could meet the rising on cheep way. The plan also helps limiting the global warming to 2 degrees during this century. If this plan succeeds to go public, it definitely makes sense and will reach out the goal everyone in this world has been searching.
Under this "another day at the office" scenario, average CO2 emissions are expected to be 498 g/kwh by the goal year 2030. This is required if they want to keep the atmospheric CO2 levels to go below 450 ppm. Beyond this level the severe climate change will be expected to occur. However, doubling the renewable energy sources could help the cause and reduce the global average emissions to 349 g/kwh. All of this coupled with bigger efficiency of energy could keep the atmospheric CO2 right below 450 ppm. The nation is gathering this week for another climate summit that will happen in New York. This road map could provide some clarity.
This plan notes that renewable power capacity has shown 85% growth in the last 10 years. However, the government and nations are going beyond short-term growth goals and ensure sustainable prosperity for all. The new forecast that arrived has shown that the electricity generation in the world is about to grown by 67% to 37,000 in 2030. What concerns us more is that bigger part of the additional capacity will come from fossil fuels. Added to this pressure for growing is to bring electricity to 1.3 billion people who don't have access to it.
